Heart Issue Sends Stanford to Hospital; Ex-CFO Pleads Guilty
The billionaire financier accused in an alleged $7 billion fraud involving certificates of deposit missed a court hearing today because of an irregular heartbeat, while one of his executives pleaded guilty in the case.
James Davis, former chief financial officer of Stanford International Bank, pleaded guilty to fraud and conspiracy, Reuters reports.
Meanwhile R. Allen Stanford missed a separate court hearing today to determine which lawyers will represent him. Stanford was taken to the hospital for an irregular heartbeat and extremely high blood pressure, the Houston Chronicle reports.
Texas lawyer Dick DeGuerin has asked to withdraw from the case. Stanford has indicated he wants to be represented by Patton Boggs lawyers Christina Sarchio and Robert Luskin.
