Gundersen to replace Moeser as leader of National Conference of Bar Examiners

Judith A. Gundersen, director of test operations at the National Conference of Bar Examiners, has been tapped to serve as the organization’s president and chief operating officer.
Gundersen replaces Erica Moeser, who retired in August. An ABA Journal Legal Rebel, Moeser has been a strong advocate of the uniform bar exam.
In a press release about Gundersen’s promotion, she notes that fewer students are attending law school and the profession is changing.
“Without a doubt, stakeholders in legal education and the regulation of the profession share the objectives of protecting the public and engendering respect for the law and the profession, and we are all committed to achieving those objectives in a way that is fair to the candidates seeking admission to the bar,” she said. “ NCBE stands ready to engage in open and productive dialogue with all stakeholders in the profession.”
Gundersen, a University of Wisconsin Law School graduate, previously worked as a prosecutor in Dane County, Wisconsin, and also in the trust department of U.S. Bank, according to the release. Her work with the NCBE has included providing exam grading training for bar admissions authorities.
“She is energetic, smart, and well qualified by her years of experience with NCBE,” Rebecca White Berch, chair of the group’s board of trustees and a retired Arizona Supreme Court justice, said in the statement.“We know she will hit the ground running, and we look forward to working with her to chart the future course of NCBE in a changing profession.”
