Greta Van Susteren Gave Mostly A’s as a Georgetown Law Prof
Georgetown students who didn’t get an A from law professor Greta Van Susteren, now a Fox News commentator, have some explaining to do.
In a YouTube video posted on TaxProf Blog, Van Susteren calls law school grading a “fraud” and says she gave A’s to almost everybody.
Above the Law has transcribed some quotes from the four-minute long clip, in which she said there was really no legitimate way to distinguish between an A, an A- and a B+. They include:
“Have you ever graded? It really is disturbing that it affects people’s lives the way it does when it is so … subjective.”
“This may be a little bit bizarre, but in a setting, at least at Georgetown, if someone is not doing well, I think it’s the professor’s fault. The people there pay a lot of money, and they’re very aggressive and they’re hard workers.”
A post on Legal Blog Watch admires Van Susteren for putting the interest of her students ahead of the school’s bell curve, but says it’s unlikely that her comments will generate serious consideration of changing the grading system.
