A grand jury will consider a murder charge against a Dallas plaintiffs lawyer who is a suspect in the shooting death of the ex-wife of his former law firm partner.

The shooting suspect, Scott Marshall, was being held on $600,000 bond, Texas Lawyer reports. A Dallas County magistrate had found enough probable cause to submit the murder charge to the grand jury for consideration, the story says.

Marshall’s lawyer tells the publication the shooting was an accident; police are still investigating the circumstances. The victim, Staci Montgomery, is the ex-wife of Marshall’s former law partner, Bady Sassin.

The breakup of Sassin and Marshall’s law firm was the subject of a court hearing on Dec. 18. In a transcript obtained by Texas Lawyer, Marshall accused Sassin of removing files from their firm, and said he had learned about the files from Staci Montgomery.

Montgomery’s body was found two days later on the porch of a home, the Dallas Morning News reported at the time.
