General Counsel Without Proper License Replaced
A general counsel of an Ohio company who did not have the proper law license has been replaced, according to Corporate Counsel.
A statement by Dana Corp. of Toledo said Michael DeBacker will continue with the company in another capacity. “The company recently became aware that Mr. DeBacker was not licensed in the state of Ohio as an in-house counsel and determined that it was in the best interests of the company to make this change,” it said.
The Toledo Blade reports DeBacker earned $1.1 million in salary and benefits last year from the car-parts maker. His license was revoked when he did not meet continuing legal education requirements, the newspaper said.
Corporate Counsel reported April 4 that general counsel at eight Fortune 250 companies—including DeBacker of Dana Corp.—did not have the proper licenses.
