Alleging that Pre-Paid Legal Services Inc. made misleading claims to consumers concerning its identity-theft protection service, the Federal Trade Commission has threatened to file suit over the issue.

Pre-Paid disclosed the FTC’s threat today, saying that it had received a proposed draft complaint from the federal agency seeking to halt the marketing of the program, reports the Oklahoman.

The company said in a written statement that it expects to defend its interests vigorously, the newspaper reports.
