Four antitrust partners at Cadwalader are jumping to Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, including the chair of Cadwalader’s antitrust practice, Charles “Rick” Rule.

Rule was also Cadwalader’s litigation chair and the managing partner of its Washington, D.C., office, report Law.com, the New York Times and Bloomberg Big Law Business. Rule will be co-chair of the antitrust group at Paul Weiss.

Law.com identifies Rule as a rainmaker who has represented Cigna in a proposed acquisition by Anthem Inc. that is opposed by the U.S. Justice Department. “For nearly the past two years,” the Law.com article says, Cadwalader “had been struggling with poor financial performance and an exodus of litigation talent, but its leaders recently said it had turned a corner. In large part, said one partner, that was due to Rule.”

Cadwalader’s managing partner Patrick Quinin has said the firm is having a strong year and is making lateral hires.

Paul Weiss, meanwhile, “has doubled down its lateral recruiting efforts this year,” according to Big Law Business. One of its hires in April was Scott Barshay of Cravath, Swaine & Moore, who became the global head of mergers and acquisitions at Paul Weiss.

Also making the move with Rule are Cadwalader antitrust partners Jonathan Kanter, Joseph Bial and Andrew Forman. The Paul Weiss press release is here.
