Four BigLaw Firms Fail to Get an 'A' Rating on Their Lunchrooms
Four out of 25 large law firms failed to get an “A” rating for their lunchrooms during inspections by the New York health department.
The AmLaw Daily found the law firms on a list of 24,000 eateries and published the findings. The four law firms that failed to make the top grade:
• Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft. It is contesting inspection results, resulting in a “grade pending” evaluation. Among the alleged violations—food was not kept at proper temperatures, and was not protected from potential contamination. The law firm says it relies on an outside vendor to run its cafeteria and has received top grades for years. Any violations are quickly corrected.
• Cravath, Swaine & Moore. It also has a “grade pending” evaluation after inspectors said cold food was not kept cold enough and noted “filth flies or food/refuse/sewage-associated (FRSA) flies present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas.” The law firm cafeteria got an “A” in February 2011. Its food vendor says it has been successful in overturning inspector findings in the past.
• Davis Polk & Wardwell. It received a “B” grade. It was cited for failing to keep cold food cold enough, for failing to sanitize food contact surfaces, and improper storage of sanitized utensils. Its food vendor says priority is given to fixing violations.
• White & Case. It received a “B” grade. It was cited for failing to properly discard or prevent cross-contamination of raw and cooked or prepared food. Another citation claims “filth flies or food/refuse/sewage-associated (FRSA) flies present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas.”
