Foster dad takes manslaughter plea in baby's hot-car death
Originally charged with first-degree murder in the death of a 10-month-old foster child who was forgotten in his car for more than two hours on a hot day, Seth Michael Jackson later saw that charge reduced to second-degree murder.
On Wednesday, he pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the Sedgwick County case. He could get as much as 136 months in prison when he is sentenced in January, the Wichita Eagle reports.
Prosecutors said Jackson had been smoking marijuana before he picked up the baby from her sitter and forgot her, still strapped in her car seat, as he went inside his Wichita home July 24 to smoke more marijuana.
