Former Office Manager Repays $350K to NC Law Firm
A former office manager who has repaid $350,000 to the Raleigh law firm at which she once worked is being held at a North Carolina jail on felony embezzlement charges after turning herself in on Friday.
Susan Rouse, 64, is suspected of stealing from Nicholls & Crampton between 2003 and October of this year, a police spokesman tells the News & Observer. Her first court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.
Partner Timothy Nicholls said the firm is “shocked and disappointed about the events leading up to her arrest.” He confirmed to the newspaper that Rouse has repaid the $350,000 but wouldn’t say how much may be at issue in the case.
As an earlier ABAJournal.com post details that such accusations of theft against trusted law firm employees are not particularly unusual. However, large lump-sum repayments are seldom reported.
