Former IRS Commissioner to Affiliate with Plaintiffs Firm
A former commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service is taking on a new role advising whistle-blowing clients of the Dallas-based law firm Baron & Budd.
Margaret Milner Richardson, who was IRS commissioner from 1993 to 1997, will serve as co-counsel on a case-by-case basis to represent clients who report suspected tax fraud, according to a law firm press release.
A 2006 law encourages whistle-blowers to report tax underpayments by awarding up to 30 percent of the amount collected by the IRS, according Fulcrum Inquiry.
Richardson likely had different responsibilities when she worked for a large law firm—Sutherland, Asbill and Brennan—from 1977 until 1993. She is currently a tax and business consultant.
“I’m been impressed with Baron & Budd’s commitment to fighting corporate fraud and wrongdoing in a number of arenas, and I’m excited about working with the firm to fight fraud in an area I know so well and have devoted my career to,” Richardson says in the press release.
