Federal prosecutors and the FBI are investigating allegations that front-office officials with the St. Louis Cardinals hacked into a computer database of the Houston Astros in 2013.

Anonymous sources told the New York Times that the database included discussions about trades, statistics and scouting reports.

A spokesperson for Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred said the league “has been aware of and has fully cooperated with the federal investigation into the illegal breach of the Astros’ baseball operations database.”

The Times calls the probe “a rare mark of ignominy for the Cardinals, one of the sport’s most revered and popular organizations.” The Cards have the best record in baseball this season.

The Astros’ general manager, Jeff Luhnow, had been an executive with the Cardinals until 2011, drafting several players who helped the Cardinals win the 2011 World Series.
