A $55 million consent decree in a racial discrimination suit against FedEx Corp. may make the agreement one of the top 10 race bias settlements, says the lawyer for the plaintiffs.

A $55 million consent decree in a racial discrimination suit against FedEx Corp. may make the agreement one of the top 10 race bias settlements, says the lawyer for the plaintiffs.

FedEx denies in the consent decree that it practiced discrimination but agrees to change the way it pays, disciplines and promotes employees, the Recorder reports.

“The money is nice, and people deserve to be compensated if they’ve been discriminated against. But the injunctive relief will go on for a long time and benefit people for years to come,” says James Finberg of San Francisco, lawyer for the plaintiffs.

In the agreement, FedEx agrees to stop using a “Basic Skills Test” for promotions. Finberg says the text is passed by 47 percent of blacks, 62 percent of Latinos and 86 percent of whites.
