A large caseload may have taken its toll on a San Francisco federal judge.

The National Law Journal reports that U.S. District Judge Martin Jenkins is seeking a seat on the California State Court of Appeal. Jenkins didn’t explain why, but associates said the huge trial workload may have played a part in his decision.

David Shapiro of Boies, Schiller & Flexner in Oakland told the NLJ that Jenkins is one of the hardest working judges he knows. “It is only speculation, but sometimes people prefer the appellate work to the trial work,” he said.
