Facing an impeachment probe, Pennsylvania AG says she won't seek re-election
Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane.
Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane announced on Tuesday that she won’t seek re-election.
Kane’s announcement “puts an end date on a tumultuous chapter in her once-promising political career,” the Legal Intelligencer (sub. req.) reports. “Kane swept into office in January 2013 as the first woman and first Democrat elected attorney general in Pennsylvania, but her tenure has been marred by political scuffles with other prosecutors and turmoil inside the Office of Attorney General.” PennLive, the Allentown Morning Call and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette also covered the announcement.
Kane is facing an impeachment probe and criminal charges alleging she leaked grand jury information and lied about it. Her law license has also been suspended.
Kane has said she is a victim of the “old boys’ network” and she urged others to continue the fight.
“When we have accomplished all of that, I will rest peacefully and easily knowing that we have marched into hell for a heavenly cause,” she said. “And we won.”
