The House Judiciary Committee will subpoena former White House counsel Harriet Miers to testify about her role in the firings of nine U.S. attorneys.

In the Senate, the Judiciary Committee will subpoena former political director Sara Taylor to testify. Both committees are also seeking relevant documents.

The Washington Post learned about the subpoenas from two officials who wanted to remain anonymous.

The White House has refused to allow administration officials to testify, offering private interviews instead.

The subpoenas are being issued following the release of White House e-mail showing Miers and Taylor discussed how to handle the response to criticism about the firings.
