Ex-employee gets 4 years in $163K law firm theft
A former office manager was sentenced to four years on Wednesday for stealing a little over $163,000 from a suburban Chicago law firm.
Jordan E. Terry, 48, could see that prison term halved for good behavior, the Daily Herald reports. She stole the money during less than a year, in 2011, by forging lawyer signatures on checks, according to prosecutors and court records in the Kane County felony theft case.
Her onetime boss, attorney J. Brick Van Der Snick, told the newspaper he is unhappy she didn’t apologize and doubts Terry’s claim that she doesn’t have any of the money she took. Once she is released, she will be required to pay restitution of $500 a month.
“The whole case has been very emotional,” Van Der Snick said. “The damage she did was severe. We are glad there’s closure and we’re glad we can move on.”
Van Der Snick practices in St. Charles.
