Ex Chicago Mayor Richard Daley Has New University of Chicago Gig, Also Expected to Land Law Firm Job
Former longtime Chicago mayor Richard Daley has landed a new gig at the University of Chicago.
He has accepted a five-year appointment at the university’s Harris School of Public Policy Studies, where he will coordinate a guest lecture series on major issues facing cities, the university announced today in a press release.
“The students and faculty at the University of Chicago benefit from a culture of open debate, in which a diverse range of scholarship and practical experiences comes together in the search for knowledge and solutions,” says the U of C’s president, Robert Zimmer, in the release. “By bringing in urban policy leaders of many perspectives, Mayor Daley will help foster illuminating discussions about how our cities can flourish, and will provide University of Chicago students with valuable educational experience.”
It is also anticipated that Daley, who earned his law degree at DePaul University, will work at a law firm, according to the Chicago Tribune’s Clout Street blog.
He is to start his post at the U of C on July 1.
