Ex-Richmond Law Prof Robert Shepherd Dies
Former University of Richmond law professor Robert Shepherd Jr., known for his work on family and children’s legal issues, has died after a battle with cancer. He was 71.
Law school dean John Douglass said in a press release that Shepherd displayed a “deep human compassion for those most in need” and mentored hundreds of students. “His teaching, writing and legislative advocacy have had a profound impact on the lives of children and youth throughout Virginia and the nation,” Douglass said.
Shepherd was a past chair of the ABA’s Juvenile Justice Committee and a founder of the law school’s National Center for Family Law. His work was “written into law in Virginia and around the country,” the press release says.
