A little over six months ago, Samuel Shepherd was in the headlines as he left Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan to help establish a new San Francisco office for Greenberg Traurig.

But now he says that was a bad idea, and is departing his new firm to go solo, reports the Recorder in an article reprinted in New York Lawyer (reg. req.).

Both he and the managing partner of Greenberg Traurig’s office in San Francisco say conflicts concerning the plaintiffs work that comprises a substantial portion of Shepherd’s book of business led to the sudden split.

“I don’t think we did a good enough job vetting it, both GT and me,” said Shepherd, who will now practice as Sam Shepherd Law. “We should’ve been more thorough. I might not have gone in the first place.”
