Ex-Prosecutor Leads U.S. Atty Probe
The lawyer who is overseeing the investigation of the firings of eight U.S. attorneys knows a little bit about the prosecutor job.
Preet Bharara is a former assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York who worked on large-scale prosecutions and organized crime cases, according to Legal Times.
One Justice Department official told Legal Times that Bharara is respected within the Justice Department. “We can’t attack him as a political hack, because he’s not. He’s a political person, but first and foremost, he’s a prosecutor,” the official said.
Bharara is chief counsel to Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., who oversees the Senate Judiciary Committee’s oversight committee.
