Ex-Government Lawyer Earns as Much Money as ‘Romantica’ Publisher
A former government lawyer has a new—and successful—career writing and editing erotic romance books that are published on the Internet.
Irene Daisy Williams—whose pen name is Treva Harte—says she makes as much money now as she did while working at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the Washington Post reports. Her company, Loose Id, grossed $1.3 million last year and is considered among the top publishers in the erotic romance genre known as “romantica,” the story says.
Lawyers are among Williams’ freelance editors. Sarah Wendell, who co-writes the Trashy Books blog, told the Chronicle that Loose Id succeeds through a combination of “quality storytelling, good editing, good business sense.”
Williams did her writing and editing work along with her government job until February, when she quit to work at Loose Id full time. She says she likes writing because she has control over the characters and there is a “happily ever after.” Her real world is more challenging; her mother has dementia, and one of her children is autistic.
