The former managing partner at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft will take over the firm’s London office after the loss of seven of its 11 partners.

The law firm said in a statement sent to partners yesterday that former managing partner Robert Link will “move to London in February to lead the firm’s rebuilding effort,” Legal Week reports. The seven partners leaving for Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker include Michelle Duncan, who had headed the London office.

The partner exodus followed an announcement by Cadwalader that profits have dropped by 30 percent, a decline some attributed to Link’s emphasis on capital markets and real estate. The focus left the firm vulnerable when work in those areas dried up in the troubled economy, the critics contend.

Comments the blog Above the Law: “So, you’re sending the guy you just ousted to rebuild the London office that just got eviscerated? Sounds about right.”
