Eatery's Dancing Dumpling Busted; Human Sign Cited for Code Violation
A costumed dancing dumpling who attracted attention to a Clearwater, Fla., restaurant by waving a saute pan at passing motorists has reportedly disappeared from the premises after the eatery’s owner was cited for a code violation.
Officials say the human sign violates the city’s code and could distract motorists, reports the St. Petersburg Times. The owner of the eatery, the Piramida Grill & Steak House, suspects neighbors complained because motorists used to honk their horns at the popular white-suited mascot, who was known as the Pierogi Guy.
The dancing dumpling apparently escaped the strong arm of local law enforcement for some time because he was out and about at night, when city code officers were off duty. But on May 3, a sign inspector working a weekend shift caught the Pierogi Guy in full regalia, and a citation resulted, the newspaper says.
The restaurant must pay a $138 fine or contest it in Pinellas County Court by June 26.
