Duquesne Settles 1 Law Faculty Suit, Still Faces 2 Others
One of three law faculty members who have been pursuing litigation against Duquesne University has settled on undisclosed terms.
The exit of Alice Stewart, a clinical administrator who had sued for gender discrimination, retaliation and defamation, leaves two other faculty members saying they weren’t fairly considered for the law dean’s job in 2004 and 2008, the Duquesne Duke reports.
Stewart had contended that the university demoted her and cut her salary after she filed a sexual harassment suit against the law dean.
All involved declined to comment on the settlement when contacted by the school newspaper, but a spokeswoman said in an e-mail that “the university and Alice Stewart have resolved their differences and Ms. Stewart is leaving to pursue other interests. The university wishes her well.”
