Documentary featuring undercover prisoners leads to firings for alleged excessive force, negligence
Five corrections officers in Jeffersonville, Indiana, have been fired following revelations in a documentary series featuring seven people who went undercover as jail inmates.
Clark County, Indiana, Sheriff Jamey Noel tells the Louisville Courier-Journal that some of the officers had to be fired for excessive force and negligence in their duties. Four others resigned, and some of the resignations were also tied to information uncovered in the series, he said. The Associated Press also has a story.
The A&E Network show, 60 Days In, followed seven volunteers who posed as jailed criminals for 60 days in Clark County. Inmates and guards thought the cameras were for a series on the experiences of first-time prisoners.
Noel said the show exposed misbehavior and mistakes, and also helped identify officers doing good work. Those employees are now used as field training officers.
