DLA Piper Acquires Lawyers from California Boutique Law Firm
DLA Piper has acquired the 10 lawyers who worked for the California boutique law firm Stevens, O’Connell & Jacobs, including two former U.S. attorneys.
The Sacramento boutique firm is closing and all of its lawyers are joining DLA Piper, according to the Sacramento Bee. A press release has details on the lawyers making the move, including former U.S. Attorneys Charles Stevens and George O’Connell.
The boutique firm’s third name partner, Matthew Jacobs, jumped there from DLA Piper in 2008 and is now returning to his former law firm.
Lawyers from the smaller firm will join DLA’s litigation practice in Sacramento, bringing to 24 the number of lawyers in the office. “We get to stay in Sacramento and maintain a small office’s collegiality,” Stevens told the Sacramento Bee in an email. At the same time, the lawyers will be able to handle more big cases because of DLA’s international platform and corporate-client base, he said.
Last month, DLA Piper was in the news when it opened an office in Wilmington, Del., with a 10-lawyer team from Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge.
