Disbarred Prosecutor’s Guitars Sold at Auction
Three guitars owned by the disbarred prosecutor in the Duke University lacrosse case were sold at a bankruptcy auction for $5,100.
Former Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong filed for bankruptcy in January after he was sued for malicious prosecution by three lacrosse players who had been wrongfully accused of rape. A federal bankruptcy judge ordered the auction, the Associated Press reports.
The guitars were a Paul Reed Smith Custom 24 electric guitar, a Martin D-41 acoustic guitar and a Fender Deluxe Nashville Telecaster electric guitar, the AP story says.
The news prompted a columnist for the News & Observer of Raleigh to ask: “Now that Mike Nifong has auctioned off his cherished guitars, the question everyone wants answered is, ‘How is he going to sing the blues without ‘em?’ ”
