The departing U.S. Attorney in Chicago who oversaw the prosecutions of two Illinois governors told reporters of one regret at a news conference on Thursday.

U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald, who is stepping down on June 30 after nearly 11 years in office, apologized for a remark he made in a 2008 press conference announcing the arrest of then-Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, report the New York Times and the Chicago Tribune. Fitzgerald said then that the governor’s conduct would make Abraham Lincoln “roll over in his grave.”

“It seemed like a good idea at the time,” Fitzgerald told reporters on Thursday. “I probably could have had a colder shower, a little more sleep and some decaf.”
