Defendant Tasered After Kicking Lawyer
Deputies subdued an unruly defendant with a Taser yesterday after he began kicking his lawyer in an Ohio courtroom.
Wendell Hollingsworth is accused of robbing parishioners during a Catholic church service. He was Tasered after he began kicking his court-appointed lawyer, J. Scott Weisman, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
The Taser dart also struck a deputy’s shoe. Hollingsworth had entered the Columbus courtroom in a wheelchair after saying he had hurt his neck in a fall.
Weisman has agreed to continue as Hollingsworth’s attorney even though his client wants him fired. Hollingsworth has made statements slurring Weisman’s religion and spit in his face, the newspaper says. The trial will proceed without Hollingsworth.
