Today's Howrey News: DC MP Will Join Sheppard Mullin; Others Also Exiting Multiple Offices
Updated: Multiple Howrey lawyers were in the news today after announcements that six partners and an of counsel are leaving the firm’s offices in Washington, D.C., Chicago, Brussels and London to work elsewhere.
Most prominent among them is Roger Klein, who was still listed as of this afternoon as the managing partner of Howrey’s headquarters in the nation’s capital. He will join Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton as a partner, the 550-attorney firm says in a press release. It has about 50 attorneys in Washington, D.C.
And, as a subsequent ABAJournal.com post details, another 15 lawyers focusing on construction law, including six partners, are leaving various offices of Howrey to work at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman; two more construction partners are joining Jones Day; and another partner whose practice focuses on financial services is joining Morrison & Foerster.
Klein also chaired Howrey’s corporate and transactional practice group and served as the firm’s general counsel, reports the Washington Business Journal.
Antitrust partner C. Scott Hataway is leaving the D.C. office of Howrey, too, and will join Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker, reports the Am Law Daily.
Meanwhile, the head of Howrey’s antitrust practice in London is exiting for Morrison & Foerster, according to the Lawyer. Tom McQuail also worked in Howrey’s office in Brussels,
And two insurance coverage partners are leaving the Chicago office of Howrey for Neal Gerber & Eisenberg, where one, Jill Berkeley, will chair the insurance policyholder practice group, her new firm says in a press release. She co-chaired the insurance recovery group at Howrey, according to her firm biography there.
Also making the move to Neal Gerber is insurance coverage partner Seth Lamden, and leaders of their new firm are crowing over the coup.
“We expect that Jill’s leadership, experience and enthusiasm will ripple through the entire firm,” says Neal Gerber’s managing partner, Jerry Biederman, in the release. “Through this acquisition, we will significantly boost our capabilities and reputation as a leader in insurance law.”
In yet more news, another partner and an of counsel in the London office are leaving for Kirkland & Ellis, as detailed in another ABAJournal.com post earlier today.
