Courts Close, Prisoners Move in Advance of Gustav
As Hurricane Gustav approached landfall on Sunday afternoon, most Louisiana courts expected to be closed at least through Tuesday, and perhaps longer.
Civil and Criminal District courts in New Orleans are scheduled to be closed through Tuesday. The state’s Fourth Circuit Court of Appeal will be closed through Wednesday. The Supreme Court of Louisiana will be closed through at least Wednesday, with all oral arguments for the remainder of the week rescheduled to October.
On Thursday and Friday, prisoners in New Orleans jails were moved inland, according to the New Orleans Times Picayune.
Meanwhile, the Louisiana State Bar Association has activated its disaster plan. It will be closed through Wednesday and will collect contact information for any of the state’s lawyers who are displaced by Gustav.
