There was live music,100 applauding guests and a lovely venue for a Valentine’s Day wedding today in Palm Beach County, Fla.

But there wasn’t the big bill traditionally associated with such nuptials, as the county clerk and local vendors cooperated to host what has become an annual event at the National Croquet Center in West Palm Beach. Thirty couples who tied the knot were required only to pay the county marriage license fee, the Palm Beach Post reported.

“With the economic downturn, … a $100 wedding and whatever you paid for your clothes, compared to a $5,000 or $20,000 wedding, is huge,” Sharon Bock, who serves as clerk and comptroller of Palm Beach County, told the newspaper. “I’d rather have the young couples put their money down on a house and get us out of this foreclosure crisis.”
