Judge Hilton Fuller is facing increasing criticism for his handling of attorney fees in the Georgia trial of a courthouse shooting suspect. And one of those complaining is a fellow judge.

Fuller had halted the murder trial of Brian Nichols after his defense lawyers complained of unpaid legal bills and said they were paying trial costs out of their own pockets. Critics said the defense fees are spiraling out of control and called for Fuller’s impeachment.

Fulton Superior Court Judge Craig Schwall weighed in on the controversy in an Oct. 11 e-mail to fellow judges, according to the Fulton County Daily Report.

“Is there any way to replace the debacle and embarrassment Judge Fuller is?” the e-mail read. “He is single-handedly destroying the bench and indigent defense and eroding the public trust in the judiciary. … He is a fool.”
