Conn. Attorney Cited for Bravery in School Bus Accident
When a delivery van rammed a school bus in front of his Plainville, Conn., law office last month, attorney Jason Famiglietti says he did what anyone else would do.
He helped the high school students inside to exit the bus through the emergency door, then invited them into his law office to warm up from the 15-degree weather outside while police cleared the scene. However, his deed went beyond ordinary good citizenship, town officials say, because of the fire risk posed by leaking diesel fuel, engine oil and transmission fluid. It had formed a puddle around the bus’ engine batteries, which were still connected and could easily have ignited, reports the Hartford Courant.
The town council issued a proclamation yesterday recognizing Famiglietti for his help with the accident.
No one apparently was seriously hurt, although several students and the bus driver were taken to the hospital.
