Clifford Chance to Cut Up to 115 Staff
Megafirm Clifford Chance has announced that it will eliminate between 105 and 115 support staff positions at its London headquarters.
The latest layoffs follow an announcement last month that the firm would reduce its partner ranks; about 80 junior London lawyers have been cut under the earlier restructuring program, and an unknown number of partners there also are expected to be asked to leave the firm, according to the London Times.
Amanda Burton, the firm’s director of global business services, says it was a difficult decision to make the cuts. “However, we need to take steps to ensure that the level of resource within the firm is appropriate for our business needs,” she tells the Times.
The firm declined to specify what cuts might be made at its international offices.
Clifford Chance has some 3,800 lawyers in 21 offices in 30 countries, according to the firm’s website.
