Megafirm Clifford Chance has announced plans to lay off up to 13 associates in its London headquarters, Legal Week reports.

“We are proposing to make a small number of lawyers redundant in London. Our business is very strong and resilient, and we continue to grow,” said David Bickerton, who serves as managing partner of the office.

“However, our attrition has fallen significantly, and we have a program of trainees and new qualifiers coming through. It is important to ensure that our resources are in line with the business needs. We have not taken this decision lightly.”

The firm has about 1,000 “fee-earners,” Bickerton noted. The associates who will be let go in approximately two weeks work in the firm’s capital markets and finance practice groups.
