Claimed $12K Coat Caper Alleged to Involve Lindsay Lohan
The fur is flying in New York over a Columbia University student’s claim that her $12,000 sheared blond mink temporarily disappeared at the same time that actress Lindsay Lohan allegedly was snapped in a series of photographs wearing a seemingly identical coat.
Although the coat was mysteriously returned to the student after three weeks, the 22-year-old former model is talking about possible litigation and punitive damages, according to ABC News. She and Lohan reportedly attended the same private birthday party at the 1Oak nightclub on Jan. 26, the wintry evening the coat went missing.
The student, Masha Markova, is a Russian emigre who has an immigration lawyer, Merrill Cohen. But the attorney had no problem switching gears to call Lohan’s Hollywood lawyer, Blair Berk, as well as offer a few catty comments to the press about the claimed coat caper.
“How entitled can someone feel?” says Cohen. “I don’t know what her motivation was. Maybe it was rare to find a blond mink that matched her hair. If my client had gotten an apology (and the coat) the next day, she would have rolled her eyes and said, ‘Party girl.’ But it wasn’t that way.”
Lawyer and client do not accuse Lohan of stealing the coat, and the actress’ rep and the club at which it disappeared say much ado is being made about nothing.
“Clearly, this girl is looking for publicity,” says a 1Oak spokesperson of Markova. “She misplaced her coat. 1Oak returned it. End of story.”
