Updated: A Pennsylvania lawyer charged in 2013 with taking money to represent a jailed client without performing the work has had the charges dropped and his record expunged.

The April 22, 2014, order expunging the record for the Reading lawyer is here. He had been charged with theft and related offenses in Berks County.

The lawyer had been accused of taking a little under $2,000 to represent the client. He was charged after investigators said he did not enter an appearance in the case.

The lawyer told the ABA Journal that the charges were unfounded, false and defamatory. He said he had performed an ample amount of work on the case when the client wanted to switch lawyers and get his money back.

This story was updated in July 2018 to reflect that the charges were dropped.
