A new social network for law students has been announced by Lawriter, a subsidiary of Collexis Holdings Inc.

The free CasemakerX site will be launched this fall, as the new law school year is beginning, the company reports in a Business Wire press release. It is supported by the Casemaker Bar Consortium, which has 475,000 attorney members in a partnership of 28 state bar associations, the release says.

The new CasemakerX social networking site will be available to U.S. law students, law school faculty and law librarians who register as users.

In addition to blogging, instant messaging, photo sharing, iPhone plug-ins and streaming video via YouTube, the site offers job postings, a suite of legal discovery products and a law library that includes more than 12 million federal and state case documents and has a medical research specialty, according to the release.
