Legal jobs are at a premium these days, but the Blog of Legal Times says the federal government has plenty of opportunities, especially for lawyers with experience with government contracts.

In a monthly feature the blog is calling “Legal Jobs Watch,” the BLT plans to highlight current federal job listings and put those openings into context with info about the specific agencies and why they are hiring.

Salaries are expected to be all over the map. In one posting highlighted this week, the government advertises an Army job in Germany that pays about $40,000. But the lawyer who lands the legal job with the Office of Thrift Supervision could make up to $217,040, an amount the BLT notes is “almost as much as a fifth year big firm associate - and $360 less than John Roberts makes as chief justice of the Supreme Court.”
