Blank Rome raids Duane Morris and Reed Smith to open new Pittsburgh office
A well-known Philadelphia law firm is expanding its footprint in the state and has raided two major Pennsylvania-based competitors to do so.
As of Friday, Blank Rome will have a five-partner office in Pittsburgh, headed by a former managing partner from the Duane Morris office there, the Philadelphia Business Journal reports.
In addition to George M. Medved, three more fellow Duane Morris litigators are also joining Blank Rome as partners, along with a litigator from Reed Smith.
The 500-attorney Blank Rome has 13 offices in the U.S. and an affiliated office in Shanghai, China. Both Duane Morris and Reed Smith are larger firms, but there are synergies with Pittsburgh’s energy-focused economy and other Blank Rome offices and Medved says in a law firm press release that Blank Rome will be a good fit for clients.
“This is an invigorating move for us,” Medved said. “Pittsburgh is a vibrant commercial market, and Blank Rome has a solid strategy for establishing and increasing its presence here. We are excited most by Blank Rome’s depth, experience and reputation, collaborative culture and diversified practice, and by its strategic geographic platform, with offices where they matter most for our clients. We are happy to be a part of Blank Rome and thrilled to build the Pittsburgh practice.”
