Bingham McCutchen and Edwards Wildman Palmer are preparing for potential mergers by shedding some of their lawyers.

Edwards Wildman may vote this month on a potential merger with Locke Lord; the two firms have signed a letter of intent to form a merged firm called Locke Lord Edwards, the Am Law Daily (sub. req.) reports. Bingham, meanwhile, is preparing for a potential merger with Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, though there has been no public announcement, according to a previous report by the Am Law Daily.

Edwards Wildman recently replaced the leader of its London office and moved to lay off some employees there, the Am Law Daily says. Several Boston partners could also be conflicted out of a merger.

Bingham has cut associates in the past year and could lose up to 25 partners in Boston, New York and Hartford ahead of a merger, anonymous sources told the publication.

According to the previous story by the Am Law Daily, Morgan Lewis sent offer letters to key Bingham partners and won’t proceed with a merger absent satisfactory answers. The deadline for a response is today, a source told the publication.
