An associate at Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith was fatally shot at a McDonald’s in Houston on Saturday after trying to calm an angry customer who was dissatisfied with his order, according to Houston police.

Jeffrey Limmer, 46, died when the customer shot him twice outside the restaurant, report Fox 26 Houston, Click2Houston and KTRK.

Limmer’s sister, Jennifer Thomas, told KTRK that she’s not surprised that her brother died while trying to help others.

“He’s always wanted to fight for the little guy,” she said. Limmer was “a good Samaritan who is trying to do the right thing.”

After Limmer tried to defuse the situation inside the McDonald’s, he stepped outside with the angry customer. Limmer pushed the man to the ground, police said. The man then went to his car, retrieved a gun and shot Limmer. The shooter fled in a pickup truck.

Limmer is a graduate of the South Texas College of Law. He has experience in person injury law, insurance coverage and premises liability, according to his law firm bio. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, skiing, biking and running.

Limmer lived near the McDonald’s, his sister told KTRK. He played quarterback for his high school football team and was an outfielder for the baseball team.

Greg Monteverde is a longtime friend of Limmer’s who played high school football with him and attended the same church as Limmer.

“I thought it was brave” to try to calm the customer, Monteverde told Fox 26. “I respect it. I think a lot of us knew Jeff to be that type of individual.”
