Rock legend Mick Jagger’s ex-wife has been evicted from the rent-stabilized New York City apartment she has called home for 20 years, potentially allowing the landlord to up the ante from the mere $4,600-per-month regulated rent that Bianca Jagger was paying to a fair-market rate.

The 62-year-old model-turned-activist had been involved in a lengthy legal dispute with the owner of the Upper East Side apartment over alleged mold damage that she claims made it uninhabitable, according to the New York Post and the Associated Press. The landlord contended that Jagger didn’t qualify for a rent-regulated apartment in New York because she is a resident of London, where she owns at least one home. However, she argued that Katz Park Avenue Corp. was trying to force her out in illegal retaliation for the mold lawsuit she filed in 2003.

Although Jagger hadn’t paid rent for months, her lawyer, Daniel Bryson, says she had been putting the money into an escrow account, reports the Post. While she knew an eviction was nearing, no one called her before the sheriff came to her 18th-floor apartment and took her belongings away and put them in storage, he says. “This is an absolute travesty. It’s a retaliatory eviction—she faithfully paid her rent every month and now they do this without letting anyone know in advance.”
