The lawyer who defended Bernard Madoff is leaving Dickstein Shapiro to join Lowenstein Sandler.

Dickstein Shapiro partner Ira Sorkin is moving to the new firm along with partner Donald Corbett and four associates, the New York Law Journal reports. Sorkin was co-chair of Dickstein’s securities litigation and white-collar practices and had been with the firm since 2005.

Lowenstein isn’t the only law firm interested in expanding its white-collar practice, the story says. More work is available as the federal government takes a more active enforcement role following the financial crisis and more actions are brought under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

Dickstein has seen at least eight partners leave this year, including Sorkin’s co-counsel in the Madoff case, Daniel Horwitz, and the managing partner of the firm’s New York office, Robin Cohen.
