Bell Boyd Lays off 10 Chicago Associates in ‘Belt-Tightening Measure’
Chicago based Bell Boyd & Lloyd has laid off 10 Chicago associates in a variety of practice areas.
Managing Partner Nancy Bertogio said in a prepared statement that the move is a “belt-tightening measure that will put us in a better position to ride out the economic storm,” the National Law Journal reports. “Like many firms, Bell Boyd is facing unprecedented market conditions, and we are taking measures to ensure the firm’s efficient operation and growth,” Bertogio said.
Bell Boyd has practices in a number of areas hit by the economic downturn, including real estate, mergers and acquisitions, and capital markets, the National Law Journal story says.
Bell Boyd had considered a merger in the past year, according to an August ABAJournal.com story, and had lost some of its lawyers as it talked to potential merger partners.
