Beer Brewer is Victorious in Battle over 'Legal Weed' Bottle Caps
A small California brewer who stood his ground in the face of threatened federal regulatory enforcement over his tongue-in-cheek bottle caps has won the regulatory battle.
Adverse publicity has helped persuade the feds that the phrase “Legal Weed” on the Mt. Shasta Brewing Co.’s beer bottle caps is neither confusing consumers (by suggesting that the beer contains marijuana) nor promoting use of the illegal drug, reports the Los Angeles Times. The brewery, which is owned by Vaune Dillman, a 61-year-old ex-cop, is located in the small town of Weed, Calif.
“They acted like Big Brother. They said I was guilty of a thought crime,” says Dillmann, recounting his six-month battle over his bottle caps with the Treasury Department’s Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau. “But it’s over. Weed fought the law, and Weed won!”
