As bedbugs continue to trouble residents and retailers of New York City, the mother of a 6-year-old girl filed suit against the city’s Waldorf Astoria, seeking more than $13,000 in damages after her daughter allegedly suffered permanent scarring to her face and body from bug bites during a one-night stay at the luxury hotel.

The complaint, filed last week in Nassau County Supreme Court, claims Susanne Igneri’s young daughter also endured psychological and emotional injuries that stem from the family’s Feb. 20 visit, such as anxiety and disordered sleep, which require medical and psychological treatment, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The hotel, which is owned and operated by Hilton Worldwide, told the WSJ in a statement that it was unaware of the lawsuit. The Hilton also provided a letter dated Oct. 20 that stated the hotel had contracted the Abalon Exterminating Co. days after the Igneris’ departure to perform a complete detailed inspection of the room, which showed no evidence of any infestation.
