The former managing director of the Bear Stearns legal arm in New York has joined Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Preston Gates Ellis as a partner.

Phillip Cedar, who was in private practice with Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom before he joined the now-struggling investment bank, is expected to focus his new practice at K&L Gates on securities and mortgage litigation, reports Legal Week.

“As a senior lawyer with extensive ties throughout the Wall Street community and an enviable portfolio of practice experiences, Phil will contribute to the growth of our New York office and enhance our ability to serve existing clients and attract new ones,” says Peter Kalis, the firm’s chairman and global managing partner.
